Terms of use

SpeakSwell is operated by Cody Farquhar, trading as Cody Farquhar Enterprises. These terms describe use of the app and website. Review the privacy policy before connecting a service or granting device permissions.
Accounts and your speech service
The web app, Android 4.4.0 and later, and Mac 2.2.5 and later use a SpeakSwell account, created by signing in with Google, and SpeakSwell’s hosted dictation. Keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for activity on your account. Every account has a free monthly allowance of hosted dictation, currently 2 hours. The allowance renews on the first day of each month (UTC) and unused time does not carry over. It is counted from the audio we process, and each recording counts as at least 5 seconds. We may change the allowance or the features in each plan, but we will not reduce time you have already paid for. Invitation-only beta builds (Android 4.2.3 to 4.3.1) and access codes issued to reviewers and testers can expire or be revoked.
Older Mac previews, the iPhone preview, and older browser editions use your own Groq account or compatible personal model connection. Provider availability, rate limits, eligibility, terms, retention, and any charges you enable are governed by your agreement with that provider.
Review your words
Speech recognition and text formatting can make mistakes or change the meaning of what you said. Review transcripts before sending or relying on them. Keep your own copies of important text. SpeakSwell does not send your messages automatically.
Responsible use
Process only recordings and text you have permission to use. When you record a meeting, a lecture or a call with Notes, you are responsible for telling the people you record and getting any consent the law requires where you and they are; many places require everyone’s agreement. Keep credentials private. You control which speech connection, formatting features, and device permissions are enabled. Follow applicable law and your provider’s acceptable-use rules.
SpeakSwell Pro subscriptions
SpeakSwell Pro is an optional subscription. In the Android app it is sold through Google Play. On other devices it is sold on the web, where you pay SpeakSwell by card through Stripe, our payment processor. It currently includes dictation beyond the free allowance (subject to the fair use limit below) and AI Notes, and it belongs to your SpeakSwell account, so one subscription covers every device you sign in on. The price, any tax, and the renewal date are shown before you subscribe. A subscription renews automatically each month or year until you cancel it; cancelling stops the next charge and you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. A free trial, when offered, is for new subscribers and ends with a charge unless you cancel before it finishes. Subscribing in both places creates two separate subscriptions that are each charged until cancelled. Deleting your SpeakSwell account does not cancel a subscription bought in either place.
Bought in Google Play. Cancel in Google Play. Payments, taxes and refunds are handled by Google Play under Google Play’s terms and its refund policy. If something went wrong with SpeakSwell itself, contact us and we will help.
Bought on the web. Cancel from Manage subscription in your SpeakSwell account, which opens Stripe’s billing page, or by emailing support. Stripe processes your card under its own terms; SpeakSwell never sees your card number. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it for up to two weeks and Pro continues while it does; if it still cannot be collected, Pro stops until the payment succeeds. Refunds for web purchases are made by SpeakSwell to the card you paid with: contact us and tell us what went wrong. A payment that is refunded or disputed with your bank ends the Pro time it paid for.
Fair use. Pro dictation is unlimited for ordinary use, which currently means up to 25 hours a month, and AI Notes up to 20 hours a month. These limits exist to keep the service affordable for everyone and may be adjusted with notice. Do not use SpeakSwell to bulk-transcribe other people’s audio, resell access, share an account, or automate requests.
Availability
The app may change or experience interruptions, including when our speech provider is slow or unavailable. It is provided as available without a promise of uninterrupted service or perfect transcription. If a recording cannot be transcribed it stays on your phone so you can retry. We may suspend or end an account that abuses the service or breaks these terms, and you can stop using it or delete your account at any time. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that applicable consumer law does not allow us to exclude.
Support
Find setup, troubleshooting, and contact information on the support page. Do not include API keys, tokens, private recordings, or unrelated personal messages in a support report.
Saved account library
The signed-in web app saves your text and portable writing settings to your account. Mac account text saving is optional and includes existing completed text when enabled. Audio stays on its recording device. Export important work and review summaries against their source; account storage has capacity limits and cannot replace your own backups.
